The Weight of Soil Story
There was a very shrewd and shrewd landlord who owned enough land in the entire village. When the needy came to him for help, he shrewdly borrowed a small amount of money. Taking advantage of people who were not very literate, he continued to add interest to the principal amount. The loan repayment amount will increase so much that people will not be able to repay and will hand over their land to the landlord.
Now he had his eye on an old woman’s land near his house. She was all alone, no other family. She used to grow her own crops and fulfill her own needs. The landlord could not understand how to persuade him to give his land. He then bribed a village government official and forged ownership documents in his name. He met the old lady along with a government official and gave her a notice to hand over the land to her.
The old woman was shocked to know that she had been living here all her life and this land belonged to her ancestors, her lovers were here and they had inherited it, how could anyone claim that. Is? He approached the local court, but the landlord had bribed everyone and produced fake ownership papers. Thus, the court ruled in favor of the landlord.
The dejected old woman then prepared to vacate the land while the landlord and his companions waited for her to leave. While leaving, the old woman came to the landlady full of tears and said, “Sir, you have taken everything away from me today, ,I have spent my whole life here, but now I am leaving.” This land is where I played, grew up with my family and this soil is very dear to me, He added, “We are all made of clay, and therefore anyone can love it. Allow me to keep this basket full of clay with me, with which I will always smell the place.” Will stay until I die in peace
The landlord smiled at the thought that since he had acquired him the whole of his land without any compensation, he might as well give him a piece of soil, so that he might go away quietly. He said, “Okay. You can have your fill.”
The old woman started filling her basket with mud. She filled it and struggled to lift the basket over her head. Then he said to the landlord, “Sir, will you give me your hand to put the basket on my head?” The landlord came forward to help and said, “Poor old woman, didn’t you think before you filled that basket? You are struggling to lift this basket full of mud, then how will you carry it with you?
With tears in her eyes, the old lady said, “Oh sir, this whole land was mine, I spent my whole life here, yet I am struggling to lift a basket of clay from here.” I won’t be able to take her with me even after I die. Sir you have so much land belonging to others. How are you going to carry all this with you?”
Hearing this, the owner of the house was stunned. He realized his mistake and fell at the feet of the old man and begged for forgiveness. He requested him to live here happily and returned his land.
